Mablethorpe 20th February sand racing

Well I have neglegted my blog of late as had to spend time elsewhere , but here we go, got the XL up and running after the last vistit to JW dyno and a new gear box all was good so loaded up on the saturday and set off 5am sunday morning. as usual we were met by a very cold east coast beach with the tide slowly going out.
Not long and the riders meeting came followed by the free practice , bike started ok and away I went to the start line it felt good to be back on her its been many weeks since the last outing , so up to the line and away just played with it as the power charateristics have changed ..and it so much more usable now you can work the throtle in the corners now to some effect steering the rear second lap and away I go now to play catch up and use the new found power came in with a smile on my face ....
Had a quick look round the bike and brushed of the sand build up, the condition of the track today is good flat and fast my race is called up and on to the line taking a midle position gate drops and away we go no one in front then the motor fluffed suddenly bikes both sides , shit !! but it came back on and away to play catch up got over half and got a sixth , well not bad and I am please with the motor and its still pulling the extra pounds I put on over xmas !!.
2nd race comes up and I head for the start line up to the gate and sat there with clutch in revving the nuts off it and Bang clutch lets go I touch the tape and it stalls out , gate drops and away every body goes me left on the line Shit !! again ....push back to the van and investigate ..clutch mechaism broke now way to fix so early bath ...Bugger..
So watched the rest from the sea wall and van as it was bloody cold ..

Got home and washed the bike put it on the stand and pulled it to bits , clutch appepars to be ok its the cam mechanism but have a spare or 10 so next job clean the parts and rebuild ready for the next meeting

What a Toy.....

Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab
When? 1951-1952What? The ultimate educational set to teach kids how to get the most out of, erm, uranium. It did what?!? This $50 (about £440 in today's money) science kit featured four lots of uranium ore for your beloved sprog to dabble with. To ensure that these weren't duds, you could use the Geiger counter included to measure the ore's radioactivity and order more uranium using a coupon. And to round out the experience, a book entitled 'Prospecting for Uranium' was included, with details of a US government initiative that paid $10,000 (equivalent to almost £90,000 today) if little Jimmy discovered any uranium deposits in the garden.

This is what any self respecting kid of the fifties  should have had...........
